Barking and Dagenham Giving is part of the growing movement of place-based giving schemes across London. The ambition of place-based giving is big – bringing people together in local communities to tackle the issues that matter most to them. This new approach to local social action acknowledges that the stubborn issues of poverty and inequality cannot be solved by one sector of society alone – be it the public, private, or third sector. This is not just another way of giving grants locally, it is about changing how people work together and making it easy for everyone to give to things that matter.
The aim of Barking and Dagenham Giving is to harness the collective financial and non-financial resources of the public, private and VCS sectors together with the hope, determination and aspiration of individuals, families and communities to live better lives, in a better place. Its mission is to increase collaboration between stakeholders and attract more resources, money, time, talent and skills in the community, so that more impact can be delivered on the ground.
