Barking & Dagenham Giving launched in May 2020. It is taking a new approach to funding, building new relationships to increase resources, and creating a platform for local voices to be heard.
The Council was one of the initial drivers of the scheme. Its Chief Executive initially worked for the Council and was responsible for early scheme development, and its staff attend Board meetings as observers. The Council is the first to provide an initial endowment of £900,000 in a PBGS. BD Giving is now an independent charity and is recruiting new trustees with expertise and grounded in the community.
Ian Parkes, Chair of Barking & Dagenham Giving said: “Every borough is different. Our governance reflects the character of the area. We support the Council’s manifesto, and it is a key influencer in the borough. We tell new trustees this is what you need to understand about key relationships locally”.
