Place Based Giving Schemes are a compelling way to bring change; our governance needs to mobilise the time, talents and assets of all sections of the community to achieve this. Every scheme is different, but they share principles of cross-sector partnership and are rooted in local needs and aspirations. There are lots of resources about good governance, and we hope that the information below helps you to turn principles of place based giving into action.

For new trustees
The Charity Commission has a range of guidance documents, starting with ‘The essential trustee: what you need to know, what you need to do’, a briefer overview ‘Charity trustee, what’s involved’ and a series of five minute guides for trustees are also useful documents that explain the principles of trusteeship.
For the Board
The Good Governance Code for Smaller Charities draws upon the Charity Commission’s guidance to set out the principles and recommended practice for good governance specifically for smaller organisations.
Getting on Board are trustee recruitment specialists. They advertise trustee vacancies and are a wealth of knowledge about how to recruit trustees offering regular events / webinars on subjects such as finding new trustees and how to diversify Boards.
